Mission:
The Irving Fine Society Singers & Ensemble is a collective of musicians dedicated to performing the music of 20th and 21st century composers who have made significant contributions to the longevity of classical music. We hope to expose the Brandeis and Greater Boston communities to the music of these magnificent composers, music that a combination of traditionally classical music and modern technique.
History:
The Irving Fine Society was founded in 2006 by music director Nicholas Alexander Brown in honor of Irving Fine, one of the most important American composers of the 20th century, the founder of the Brandeis University Brandeis University School of Creative Arts, Department of Music and of the Festival of the Creative Arts. The inaugural performance, An American Icon: Leonard Bernstein, was presented during the 2007 Brandeis Festival of the Creative Arts. In addition to celebrations of the music of Benjamin Britten, Olivier Messiaen and Irving Fine, the Irving Fine Society Singers and Ensemble has premiered works by Composer in Residence Derek Strykowski, Daniel Neal, and Nicholas Alexander Brown. In the fall of 2008 the Irving Fine Society Singers presented the U.S. premiere and world premiere of choral works by Edwin Geist, a rediscovered Holocaust composer, at the Goethe Institut-Boston and at Brandeis University. Recently IFS presented a concerts exploring works by Wagner, Hindemith, Schubert, Schulhoff, Fine and Barber.
